64 bit will be problematic.

Really? You did a successful Windows build?

That would be a compile-time problem resulting from a bad build. That
shouldn't be possible with a binary install.

If you downloaded the Mac version from the website and wrote the program

and nothing worked, you'll need to work with us to give us more
information about your machine and the Arduino you're using. For
example, did you upload the firmware first? (That is being updated in
the book, and is a necessary first step.) However, that wouldn't be
the cause of the problem you related, and I'm unsure how a binary
package that we tested on many machines in the past few days would not
work.

I'm using the current binary on the Mac, and the simplest possible
program using the Plumbing library compiles fine. If your Mac can't
compile that program, then there is something strange about your Mac,
and it will take us more dialog back-and-forth to figure out why your
machine is unique.
