If you're not used to Vim, you may find Cream useful:
  http://cream.sourceforge.net/

It's a set of configuration files for Vim that makes it behave like a
CUI (Windows-style) non-modal editor, so you can use the occam syntax
highlighting, etc., while not having to wrap your brain around modal
editing.
