Given all the issues you outlined (elided), I think that is a great idea!
Doubly so since you have done it before. Being able to focus on core
areas is a huge win. I've been following along on the mailing list since
your visit to HackPittsburgh lo those many years ago now, and while
I'd love to do more with the Arduino, the build process
and other support issues have been enough to discourage me from
even playing around. Which is my own problem, but I might
not be the only one with too-many-projects-itis. This sounds like
a great way to focus the resources you have for maximum effect.
