I can't replicate this on my 10.6 install, which similarly updated itself in the manner you described. Looking at the Google results for the error message, a wild guess would be that something in the current bundle is compiled for 10.6 or greater.

Are you still running a variant of 10.5 (Apple > About this Mac) ?
